Well, it's time for the next generation of Johnson youngsters to follow the footsteps of their fathers and their uncles, so

Thor was off to space camp!

Our 10 year old grandson Thor spent a week at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson Kansas where his dad Bryan and his uncles Ben, Brett & Brad had blazed the same trail a generation ago.

He was enrolled in the "Alien Adventure" a five day camp where they learned about a wide range of Space themes with an emphasis on exploring the possibility of Alien life in our universe.

Hutchinson Kansas is a 712 mile drive from our home and on the early morn of June 8, Bryan, Brett, Thor, Ashton & myself set out on the 12 hour drive.  We had rented a VRBO home just blocks from the Cosmosphere and arrived around 8pm that evening.  Long Day.

Thor was up bright and early to report for Camp at 8:30AM  He went through his orientation and they got right to work.  They learned Morse code, Spectroscopy, Alien Cultures, Microscope work and even ate a Salted Cricket!

They toured the beautiful Hall of Space Museum at the Cosmosphere which in many ways rivals the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington DC.

They had a session in Dr. Goddard's lab where they learned the fundamentals of Rocketry.   Outstanding!

While Thor was at Camp, we did many other things in and around Hutchinson, like checking out world famous Prairie Dunes Country Club and taking in the local Hutch library and local restaurants.

But we spent the bulk of our free time right in the Hall of Space Museum.   Brett in particular spent most of his days there.  The original Apollo 13 spacecraft is there, Gus Grissom's Mercury Liberty Bell 7 is there, an actual Gemini spacecraft,  V1 & V2 exhibits, and the best collection of Soviet Spacecraft outside of Russia!

Picture upper right is Thor holding onto the nosecone of an SR71 Blackbird with proud Bryan on his side.  Thor and his class are seen mid left under the exhaust nozzles of a Gemini rocket!

Mid right is Brett by Apollo 13's Odyssey Space Capsule. THE REAL ONE!  Picture all the way on bottom is Thor, Ashton, Bryan and a very proud Grandpa in the shadow of the Space Shuttle right after Thor's graduation.

Thor's counselors told us he was a model camper, soaking up all the information they provided, very respectful and always well behaved. When I asked Thor what he thought of the Space Camp he said "10 out of 10"!

So Proud of Thor.

He loved the camp

Praise God for Grandkids!

next summer - Year 2!
